Our story
How a kid from Nantucket ended up caring for the island's vehicles
It started in an organic grocery store on Amelia Drive.
Where it started
My mother lives with autoimmune disease and severe chemical sensitivity, so my parents built the only store on the island she could safely shop in — an organic grocery on Amelia Drive, free of fragrance and harsh chemicals. Its customers suffered the same way she did, and every detailer on the island sent their cars back reeking of air freshener. I was twelve, with a couple of failed kid businesses already behind me — nobody trusts a twelve-year-old with their computers. But I could clean a car so it came back smelling like nothing at all, and for some of those customers, it was the first time since they'd bought the car that it didn't make them sick. That trust built a trade, the trade built a company, and we still work to the standard it taught me.
What the store taught me
My father ran it as a nonprofit — loving, generous, never thinking of himself. When the store was sold, the island lost it for good. The lesson: caring isn't enough. You have to build something that lasts. ACK Detailing is that store's standards, built to last.

We bring the shop to you
Three technicians, three fully equipped vehicles, anywhere on the island — your driveway becomes the shop. Same crew, same standard, for the summer families and the neighbors we see all year. This island raised us. Serving it well is the whole point.
The first real customer I ever had called me back about a stain I'd missed. He wasn't angry — he just said, "I want you to be good at this." I've been trying ever since. It's why we follow up after every job, and why, if something isn't right, we come back and fix it — no charge, no chasing us down.
The store is gone, but what it stood for rides with us every day: care for the people others overlook, honest work at an honest standard, and a company built to be here for this island — next year, and the year after.
